Where do you live?
Ottawa, Canada. Near Ikea to be more precise.
How many weddings do you shoot in a weekend?
To maintain the high level of service to which I am committed, I book one per weekend. I once did three in a row…never again.
How long have you been shooting weddings?
I’ve been a wedding photographer since 2003, more than 13 years and 250 weddings ago. My very first solo wedding was at the Mackenzie King Tearoom in Gatineau park…seems like a lifetime ago.
Are you insured?
Great question, and yes I am. I have four types of insurance, including a commercial rider on my car. If your venue requires proof of insurance just let me know and I’ll get the documents to them before the wedding.
Do you photograph details?
Wedding photography is about personalities and connections between people, and that’s where my attention is when I’m working. So the answer is a qualified yes: I do, but not at the expense of a photo of Grandma laughing with you during dinner or your 12 year old nephew breakdancing to MC Hammer.
What about family group photos?
Always. I have honed techniques over the years to make sure all the important groupings are captured without spending what feels like forever standing in a line and smiling at me. But my goal is to get more candid photos of you with your family too, and many of my clients like those ones even better.
Do you travel? How does that work?
Yes I do, although not too often. Most out-of-town weddings I’ve done have been in Montreal or Quebec City, or north of Ottawa in places like Arnprior or Calabogie. Travel expenses are determined on a case-by-case basis, so if you’re considering a wedding that would require me to travel, give me a call and we’ll discuss options.
How did you get into weddings?
After getting my first digital SLR in 2002 (canon 10D if you’re curious) I worked with another photographer for a year, learning the ins and outs of wedding and people management. After shooting about ten weddings as a second photographer, I struck out on my own and haven’t looked back.
What happens if it rains?
You get wet. Or not. It’s really up to you. I carry white umbrellas just for this reason.
Do you need a shot list?
If you have any special photos you’d like me to take, by all means let me know. During our final preparation meeting, we’ll go over all the details, including the family organization for the group photos and any other special requests.
When will we see our photographs?
I typically deliver a few photos within a day or two of the wedding to torture you a little bit. The rest take between one and three weeks, at which point we’ll set up a viewing session to go through them together on the big screen. This is my favourite part of a wedding…getting to see your faces as you relive your day.
How do we book you?
I’m pretty easy to find. You can use this form or give me a call, and we’ll go from there.
